Cuckoo spit

It looks as though someone has thrown a bowl of soapy washing up suds over the field. Some people call this white froth, "cuckoo spit" but apart from appearing in Spring when cuckoos are calling, it has nothing to do with them. It is actually produced by the nymph of a froghopper, a type of insect and is made from the plant sap. If you look inside, you will find a small creamy, brown creature, not much bigger than a grass seed. Why not have a look if you see any?
