When organic material such as leaves and twigs fall into streams, they break down, producing surfactants. These act like soap, making foam where the water gets aerated. It is perfectly natural and not pollution. I have noticed a lot of this foam on streams lately. Maybe it is because it has been so windy and a lot of leaves have fallen in? Have you spotted any foam on streams?
