Bird's Nest Orchid

Bird's nest orchids cannot make their own food (they have no chlorophyll, the green pigment that most plants use for photosynthesis) but rely on fungi in the soil. They are uncommon and quite well camouflaged but, as children are generally more observant than adults, you could look out for them if you are in a beech wood at this time of year.
